New samples from the hot springs of Kamchatka's Valley of Geysers
Our lab has a seasonal pastime: collecting water and mud from hot springs, hauling the samples back to the lab, and then fishing thermophiles and their viruses out of them. Sometimes we travel to the hot springs ourselves, and sometimes friends and colleagues bring us samples. This time our colleagues from RTU MIREA lugged in a whole pile of samples from hot springs on Kamchatka, so the next while will be phage hunting season for us — and there are definitely phages in there!
